In that game, Fergie said he would stay put as the keeper De Gea principal place of Edwin van der Sar, who retired, though many say that the Spaniard appeared nervous at the Community Shields at the weekend.
Fergie admits that De Gea one react when Edin Dzeko scored the second goal for Manchester City. But he still believed the 20-year-old player as a top choice.
"De Gea is a mistake, but why no one criticizes Joe Hart who also make mistakes when we scored the first goal. It's common mistakes, let alone the first time he appeared," Fergie said as quoted by ESPN.
"De Gea will be fine. He will play on Sunday and look better longer. That is the reason why we spend £ 18 million to bring it. He remains my primary choice."
Fergie is also planning to provide opportunities for young players like Tom cleverly, Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones who look slick while defeating City. He also reiterated his team had no interest in Wesley Sneijder because it will bring more focus on developing young players.
